Applicant Tracking System (ATS)

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software that collects, stores and manages job applications through the hiring process — from posting and intake through screening, interviews and offers.

The ATS is the system of record for recruiting, and parsing is its intake valve: when a candidate applies, a resume parser converts the uploaded file into the profile fields everything else operates on. Search, filtering, ranking and reporting are only as good as that parsed data — which is why parsing quality quietly determines ATS usefulness, and why candidates are advised to submit parser-friendly documents.

Common misconception
