Resume Screening
Resume screening is the process of deciding which applicants proceed to human review — historically a recruiter skimming documents, increasingly an automated pass over parsed data and match scores.
In one paragraph
Screening is the decision layer above parsing (the data) and matching (the judgment): knockout rules remove hard-requirement failures, scores rank the rest, and recruiters work the top of the list. Because screening decides outcomes for real people, it is the layer regulation targets — NYC Local Law 144's bias audits and the EU AI Act's high-risk rules both aim here, making explainable inputs a compliance requirement rather than a nicety.
Manual vs automated
A recruiter gives each resume seconds; an automated pass gives each one the same 20-dimension evaluation and writes down its reasons. The honest case for automation is consistency and documentation, not magic — the human still makes the hire.
