 Skills Taxonomy

  A **skills taxonomy** is a structured vocabulary of skills and their relationships — which skills are synonyms, which imply which, and how they group into competencies. Public standards include ESCO (EU) and O\*NET (US).

In one paragraph
----------------

 Raw resumes name the same capability a dozen ways — “JS”, “JavaScript”, “ECMAScript”, “front-end scripting”. A taxonomy collapses the variants into one node with known relationships, which is what makes skills searchable, comparable and matchable at scale. Parsers use taxonomies to normalize extracted skills; [matching engines](https://resumeparser.pro/glossary/candidate-matching) use them to recognize that a Django developer satisfies a Python requirement without either word matching.
